Show History

ORANGE SHOW HISTORY

The "Orange Show" has been part of the community since 1873 when the first official show was held at The Cricket Ground (now Wade Park).

During this time, there would be information, photographs, trophies and other memorabilia as well as personal stories that should be collected to tell the story of “The Show” and its part in the development of Orange and District. Many of these items are in cupboards and sheds gathering dust.

Would you like to see them used as part of displays and possibly a book that is planned for the 150th Show in 2022, which is five years away?

There are various ways to be part of this project, including:

·  Donating any trophies, schedules, exhibit items to the society

·  Loaning photographs, documents etc ( scanned and returned )

·  Attend informal groups to tell your stories of years gone by.

·  Gathering the history, research, interviewing

·  Writing the history, proofreading, photographing etc

This project has assistance from the Orange Regional Museum who provides training and support.

The Regional Museum’s “Paddock to Plate” will be including a section on local shows, which will focus on foods sold, fruit, vegetable, cake sections and methods of presentation.  We would like your help.
